Family Vacation Update

sparklers.gif
Summer is finally here and our family vacation is just around the corner. A week at the lake "up north" - makes me remember those wonderful summer days at Sand Lake with Papa and Grandma. Time to create more memories!

I feel a little competition coming on. Since each family is taking a turn at hosting a dinner, we'll vote on the "favorite vacation dinner" at the end of the week. No pressure here, but there will be a prize for the winner. Winner, winner, chicken dinner. The Krohn family will be using chicken of some sort in their dinner. Shhhhh, the menu shall remain secret.

Rumor has it that the now defunct Easy Bake oven may make an appearance at Woman Lake. Erin has volunteered to cook breakfast a few mornings. If you have a hankerin' for pancakes or French toast instead of yogurt and fruit, bring the ingredients and chef Erin will heat up the griddle for you.

Just remember, dear family, everyone pitches in with the clean-up. No slackers allowed.

And did I mention drinks???? Happy Hour starts at ________. Hey, we're on vacation! Bring your favorite drink recipes and ingredients. Kiddie cocktails included.

For our 4th of July potluck, think family backyard cookout. Burgers, hot dogs, potato salad, beans - as American as apple pie! Who has all of the apple pies?

That's a start. Let the planning begin...

If I'm cooking breakfast for my girls, I'm willing to cook for the entire crew. As long as you're willing to eat when we do. Pancakes, french toast, oatmeal, and scrambled eggs. Cereal morning you're on your own!

Put me down for chicken burgers and cowboy beans (is that what they're called?) for the 4th of July potluck.

Prizes? Watch out, the Matthews/Hulke will dominate!

Put Dad and me down for Big Mac's and French Fries for our dinner. For our vegetable, Dad suggested Fondue! We should win hands down.

John? John? Where fore art thou, John???

I think the two Grunst boys need some help creating a menu. Veggies are green and do not do well in peanut oil.

How about pork chops, sauerkraut and bake potatoes. We will need to know how many chops? Kathy can you help Dad get chops at Schmidt's?

Posted by: Scott at June 17, 2010 05:58 PM

Sauerkraut will pass for a veggie. We'll have to take a headcount and get the chops ordered from Schmidts. I have a feeling we will be standing in line early on 7/3 waiting for our meat order. Bacon, pork chops, burgers, farmers sausage, turnovers. Only the best!

I'm not sure what meal you all are referring to, but we will bring my famous Sloppy John's for potluck Sunday. Then for our designated meal, we plan on a fish fry (thus keeping with me and Jeff's strict Catholic life style). This, however, will greatly depend on Scott's ability to help harvest/kill fish on the Woman. Or sardines anyone? Bullhead?

John??? Is that you? You ARE still alive and kicking...hooray!

Put me down for AJ's chicken burgers too...they are my new favorite grill-able. We are in for a dessert and a salad for 4th of July PotLuck. Still thinking on our dinner night contribution, depends on whether or not any other Matthews show up to help me out--if not...well, I hope y'all enjoy protein shakes and hard boiled eggs and almonds.

For the love of pete, when do we get to discuss DRINKS???

Posted by: Lisa at June 20, 2010 11:23 AM

We are in for dessert for the 4th. It will be root beer floats. We'll have enough for the whole crew.

We have Monday night supper. It'll be a big surprise, since we are still deciding on the menu. You can be sure it will be easy however. Sharon, do you think you can grate three or four bowls of parmesan with a fork for us??

Now we're talkin'. If you really want to be fancy, throw in a signature drink with your meal. Erin thought it might be fun to do variations of S'Mores. We can get creative here.

I'll bring a salad that the kids will like for the 4th of July potluck, brats for the grill, and an apple pie from my stash in the freezer. My long list is started.
