"Mele Kalikimaka"

While we wait for the Commish to provide stats on Bake Day, here's some initial info on Christmas, which will be held at the Matthews on Saturday, December 26.

By unanimous vote, chosen eats for the day are Appetizers--after large Christmas Eve/Day meals, we decided to go light and easy! So, everyone bring an appetizer or two for a crowd. I have 4 crockpots and 12 plug-ins on my island for your use.

We also decided it might be fun to try new drinks so bring your favorite cocktail recipe along and we'll see who can create a Doodsbrood favorite. My bar is stocked with the regulars (vodka, rum, champagne, whiskey), but if you want an elaborate cocktail, bring the ingredients!

If you so choose, bring a $20.00 unisex gift to exchange in a surprisingly unique manner. Oh, I'm not even going to try to compete with "The Great Auction Of 2008", but this ain't bad coming from the Least Favorite.

Other entertainment will be some new games courtesy of Kathy, Bunco and two new guessing games: "How Many Digits Does CJ Have Left?" and "Who Is The Friendship Days Parade Grand Marshal Of 2010?"

We do have sliding hills close by, so bring sledding clothes for the kids.

Those of you who know me, know that on Dec. 26 that month-old, dried out, needle-less tree comes down and all the Christmas decorations get put away. So, if Valentine decorations are up when you arrive, don't be surprised.

Sounds like a great time, 'cept for that pretty tree being gone! Shall we each post our dishes so we don't have doubles or should they all be a surprise? We can bring that hot buffet thing we got for Christmas last year; it holds 3 things. We got our $20 gifts on Saturday...you'll all wish you received them!!! We also tried our new drink: Yum! We are planning a virgin drink too but haven't tried it yet. Can't wait to play the new games.

Let it be said that the Dood's Brood group knows how to throw a family party. Who needs a Christmas tree anyway? I will be bringing a "meaty" appetizer and the chocolate fountain complete with lots of dippers. Last one to dip gets to clean up the thing.

And I have a Christmas martini sure to makes us all happy, happy. One exchange gift bought, one to go.

I'm bringing my world famous buffalo chicken dip. Yum!

What time does everything start?

Thanks for the input you guys. We have yet to hear from some folks, but Sheila, I think it's a good idea for everyone to post what appetizer they plan to bring. And we will have a 3-tray warmer and a chocolate fountain? You people are serious about your appetizers, aren't you???

It's been a tough few months here at the Matthews, so I cannot wait to try each and every one of the drink recipes.

Oh...did I tell you? There will be prizes for "Best New Drink" and "Best Appetizer". I know what motivates this family!

The BD Commish is prototyping our craft and hopefully it makes it on our agenda for the day.

Erin, that's a good question. When can everyone be here? John? Lonni? Boomer?

Hands down, My Honey will be winning Best New Drink! I wanted at least 3 more this weekend but for some reason he would only make me one; maybe because of the high alcohol content! I'm sure he's off now at Foodnetwork.com finding the perfect appetizer...

Oh no! More pressure. I think Mr. Scott Grunst better get in on the competition. Come on, Scott. You must have a good organic appetitizer that you can wow us with. You and Papa Dood can work on perfecting the Tom and Jerry recipe. Lisa needs a little powdered sugar flying around the kitchen.

Kathy, Scott is too busy on Facebook to post here.

Memo to Host:
No Christmas tree, no Tom and Jerry's!
Now back to Facebook to see some more of Seth's raunchy posts.

We will be bringing spinach dip for sure and another dish "TBA". Still looking for that perfect appetizer...

Alright, here's the menu contributions from the Round Lake Grunsts:

Drinkies:
Snowflake Martinis
Gage's Mele Kalikimaka Cranberry Granitas

Appetizers:
Spinach Dip
Chicken Salad Sliders

We'll be arriving at the Matthews before noon!
Feliz Navidad.
